Autologous blood donation
We recommend that our patients should donate their own blood prior to an elective surgical procedure, depending on their health condition. This is particularly useful before undergoing major surgery to avoid the need for an allogenic blood transfusion (from a volunteer blood donor). Your attending physician will discuss this with you to give you further information.
General blood donation
It is not possible to meet the demand for blood conserves by the patients’ donations of their own blood. As our hospital does not maintain a blood bank, we depend on the blood conserves supplied by blood donor services. If you wish to donate blood, please contact the nearest blood donor service. As for the Ammerland region, the German Red Cross offers regularly scheduled blood donation times.
