Our team
At the Westerstede Bundeswehr Hospital, a mixed civilian and military staff of more than 400 people cater to our patients’ needs 24 hours a day.
In our facility, physicians, junior physicians and nursing staff work hand in hand. Administrative and infrastructure support is provided by a headquarters section and clerical staff. Every specialty department is headed by a medical specialist. A dedicated mixed team of civilian and military nurses and other employees cater to the wishes and needs of our civilian and military patients.
Additionally, our staff includes licensed junior physicians (medical officers) who work with us during their medical specialist or general practitioner training or other type of military assignment.
Interdisciplinary cooperation
It is particularly in the medical field that our patients benefit from interdisciplinary cooperation. This is because several specialists of different disciplines are involved in diagnostics as well as in the surgical treatment of many illnesses.
Individual clinical pictures and the appropriate selection of diagnostics and therapy which best serve the specific needs of the patient and the individual therapy goal require a level of knowledge, experience and skill that is often beyond the limits of the individual medical specialty. At the Westerstede Bundeswehr Hospital – and, accordingly, at the Westerstede hospital center – we offer our patients interdisciplinarily coordinated diagnostics and therapies under one roof, that is, without specialty-related barriers between the medical disciplines and without the need for patients to be transported over large distances.
Of course, external physicians who refer their patients to our hospital will be integrated into this interdisciplinary joint diagnostic approach. This is to ensure continued medical treatment after a patient’s release from our hospital.
Two hospitals - one team
Within our cooperation with the Ammerland Hospital we jointly operate the surgical section and the departments for anesthesia, intensive medicine and radiology. Because of this, and due to the short distance to the Ammerland Hospital, our patients also get into contact with staff who do not belong to the Bundeswehr hospital. You may rest assured, though, that our colleagues of the Ammerland Hospital work to the same highest medical standards as we do.
